Stimulus / Response Discussion

This past Saturday, Roshi presented a visual model of the stimulus / response loop and how memories, conditioning, and the story are all part of the process and most importantly, where we can have an impact in our practice. I captured my interpretation here for future discussion:

The idea is that the stimulus or experience is only a part of what we perceive and that our memories and conditioning overlay the experience to create the story in our mind. We need to be skillful and have right view (my interpretation), right intention, and practice skillfully using right speech and right action in our response.

Important: we don't have any control over the past and yet we spend a lot of our time processing, worrying about, and indulging in "the story".
